
João Oliveira, director of the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) of Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, announced at 00:10 on Sic Notícias that the number of injured increased to 23, up from the 18 initially reported.
He highlighted that more than five people are in serious condition, without specifying the exact number, as well as the number of people in critical condition.
The director stated that the injured are being treated at the hospitals of São José, Santa Maria, São Francisco Xavier, Cascais, and Amadora.
Regarding the nationalities involved, João Oliveira noted that some are foreign nationals, which “adds a degree of difficulty for identification,” without providing specific data.
The Glória funicular in Lisbon derailed this Wednesday at 18:04 on Calçada da Glória.
The government has declared a national day of mourning for this Thursday.
The Glória funicular, operated by Carris, connects Restauradores with Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara in Bairro Alto, covering a distance of about 265 meters and is very popular among tourists.
