Member of the European Parliament, Catarina Martins, took to her social media platforms to mark World Health Day, offering a poignant reminder as well.
“World Health Day reminder: The OECD reports that fewer and fewer young people are aspiring to careers in health. At age 15, the desire to pursue a career in nursing, for example, has dropped to one-third,” reads her post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
She further commented, “It is urgent: humanized organization and working conditions, dignified salaries.”
In conclusion, she added the note that “there is no health without healthcare workers.”

It should be noted that World Health Day was established by the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 7, 1948. However, it was only celebrated beginning in 1950.
This year, the WHO dedicated the edition of World Health Day to maternal and child health issues, launching a campaign today to reduce preventable maternal and neonatal deaths.
The organization estimates that every year around 300,000 women lose their lives due to pregnancy or childbirth, while more than two million babies die within the first month of life.
