The Portuguese government says that the attack on a school in Gaza is "intolerable"

“The bombing of schools in Gaza by Israeli armed forces is intolerable,” reads a message on the official page of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the social network X.

In the note condemning the attack that occurred in the early hours, the Portuguese Government “appeals, once again, for the Government of Israel to respect humanitarian law.”

“Only an immediate and unconditional ceasefire can protect hundreds of thousands of innocent victims,” stressed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Israel carried out an airstrike today that hit a school turned shelter in Gaza during early morning prayers, killing more than 100 people, all civilians, according to Palestinian health authorities.

The Israeli armed forces acknowledged that they had targeted the al-Tabin school, claiming they had hit a Hamas command center and that at least 19 “terrorists” from that Islamist group and Islamic Jihad were killed in the bombing.

The Islamist group Hamas denied that the interior of the school was one of its centers.

The attack was internationally condemned by Arab and Muslim countries, the United States, the European Union, Spain, France, Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

This was one of the deadliest attacks in the 10-month war between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, which began last October.
