The handover of weapons took place as part of the national operation “Safe Weapons – Summer Tour 2025,” which began on the first of July and concluded on August 31.
In a statement summarizing the operation, the PSP notes that the weapons, 141 of which were “class D — shotguns and rifles,” were surrendered during 128 proximity policing actions, service, and licensing operations across the country, involving “343 officers from the weapons and explosives unit.”
During these actions, “more than a thousand contacts were made with individuals to address questions and provide information on licensing processes related to the use, possession, storage, transportation, and utilization of firearms, particularly those related to hunting activities,” it adds.
The PSP had urged the public to surrender weapons with expired licenses to this police force or to place them in a type 2 armory, an establishment licensed for the storage and deactivation of weapons.
The national operation “Safe Weapons, Summer Tour 2025” utilized Mobile Service Units and coordinated with “local authorities, parish councils, cultural and sports associations, security forces and services, among other partners.”
