Thursday is set to bring scattered showers throughout the morning, along with strong winds along the coastal areas and in the highlands of mainland Portugal. The sea conditions will also be rough, with the entire coastline under a red alert during the early hours of the morning.
Cloud Cover and Showers
According to a post on the Facebook page of the Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), the day will feature “periods of very cloudy skies,” with the southern region expected to see clearer skies by the afternoon. The scattered showers will mainly affect the western coastline and the extreme north until the end of the morning.
Wind Conditions
Winds will be blowing at a “moderate to strong” intensity, but they are expected to gradually lessen from mid-afternoon onward. In the northern and central regions, there may also be “formation of ice or frost in some inland areas.” Additionally, there will be a slight drop in minimum temperatures.
Conditions in Greater Lisbon and Greater Porto
In Greater Lisbon, expect “periods of very cloudy skies” with winds ranging from “light to moderate,” but potentially picking up to “moderate to strong” along the coastal strip, particularly near Cabo Raso. This wind intensity is also expected to decrease by mid-afternoon.
Similarly, Greater Porto will experience “periods of very cloudy skies” with “light to moderate” winds coming from the north. However, along the coastline, the winds may also reach “moderate to strong” levels, with a decrease in intensity anticipated around the same time in the afternoon.
Weather Alerts
Due to the windy conditions, all coastal districts will be under a yellow alert until 3 PM on Thursday.
