
The Regulatory Authority for Energy Services (ERSE) has released data indicating that the free electricity market saw an increase of 10,436 customers in May compared to April, while the regulated market lost 4,064 customers, totaling 831,834.
By the end of May, consumption in the free market accounted for 95% of the total consumed in mainland Portugal.
EDP Comercial maintained its position as the leading operator in the free market, holding a market share of 60% in customer numbers and 37.3% in consumption.
In the industrial client segment, EDP remained the leading supplier with a consumption share of 26%, while Iberdrola led in large consumer supply at 26.1%.
In the natural gas sector, the free market had over 1.1 million cumulative clients in May, with a net increase of 1,015 from April.
In the regulated market, there were 819 fewer clients than in the previous month, with a total of 437,983.
The overall monthly consumption of natural gas was 2,530 GWh, approximately 0.1% less than in April and 2.8% less than in May 2024, with the free market accounting for approximately 95.4% of the total consumption recorded in mainland Portugal.
Galp maintained its leadership in the industrial client segment with 34.9% and in the large consumer segment with 57.5%, while EDP led the small and medium-sized enterprises segment with 39% and the residential segment with 38.4%.
