Reports indicated at 20:00 on Saturday that the pediatric emergency department, as well as the Gynecology and Obstetrics emergency departments, will be closed at Vila Franca de Xira Hospital, in the Lisbon district.
In the Setúbal district, emergency services for Gynecology and Obstetrics are closed at Garcia de Horta Hospital (Almada) and São Bernardo Hospital (Setúbal).
Similar closures are confirmed in the Gynecology and Obstetrics departments at Santarém District Hospital, Infante Dom Pedro Hospital (Aveiro), and Santo André Hospital (Leiria).
Health authorities urge the public to contact the SNS24 Line (808 24 24 24) for proper guidance before heading to an emergency department.
On Friday, the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, stated that the health emergency plan presented a year ago shows results, highlighting fewer emergency department closures compared to 2024.
“There are fewer emergency departments closed and more open,” emphasized the minister, noting that in the Setúbal Peninsula, in Obstetrics, “up to this month of July, no closures have occurred,” during a press conference following the Council of Ministers.
