There are foods increasing by 13%: See how the price of the food basket is.

The price of the food basket decreased by almost four euros in the past week, following four consecutive weeks of price increases, announced DECO PROTeste on Thursday, which has been monitoring prices. However, prices for zucchini, canned tuna in oil, and mackerel rose between 10% and 13%.

“After four consecutive weeks of increases, the price of the food basket registered a decrease of 3.86 euros (1.59% less) last week and now costs 238.93 euros,” stated the consumer protection organization.

Since the beginning of the year, this basket of essential goods has increased by 2.76 euros (1.17% more).

“On January 5, 2022, when DECO PROteste began monitoring the cost of the food basket, the price was 187.70 euros, 51.23 euros less (27.29% less),” the organization also noted.

Which prices increased the most?

Between June 18 and June 25, zucchini, canned tuna in oil, and mackerel were the products with the highest percentage price increase, between 10% and 13%.

“For zucchini, the increase was 23 cents per kilo, reaching 1.95 euros. The price of canned tuna in oil rose by 16 cents, to 1.55 euros. Mackerel increased by 38 cents per kilo, to 4.19 euros,” reported the consumer protection organization.

In addition to zucchini, canned tuna in oil, and mackerel, other notable price increases between June 18 and June 25 were seen in products like Golden apples (10% more) or sliced cured cheese (9% more).

However, when “comparing this week’s prices with those from the first week of 2025, the largest percentage price increase was observed in products such as eggs (28% more), Gala apples (24% more), and oranges (20% more).”

“Since DECO PROteste initiated this analysis on January 5, 2022, the largest percentage increases were seen in veal for boiling (97% more), eggs (80% more), and oranges (65% more),” the organization concludes.

How is this price monitoring conducted?

The consumer protection organization explains that since January 2022, DECO PROteste has been tracking the prices of essential food items, “analyzing the total cost of a basket every Wednesday, based on prices collected the previous day from major supermarkets with online stores.”

“Initially, the average price per product is calculated across all available online stores in the simulator. Then, by adding the average price of all products, the cost of the basket for a certain day is obtained,” explains DECO PROTeste.
