
On Saturday, the emergency departments of this specialty will be closed at the Barreiro hospital (Setúbal district) and Caldas da Rainha hospital (Leiria district), according to the schedules reviewed at 12:15 today.
The situation improves on Sunday, with only the gynecology and obstetrics emergency department of Barreiro Hospital closed.
The closure of emergency departments will necessitate diverting patients to reference units.
On Saturday, the obstetrics emergency departments at the Amadora-Sintra, Barreiro, Vila Franca de Xira, Santarém, São Francisco Xavier, and Leiria hospitals will operate under restrictions, receiving only cases referred by CODU/INEM.
On Sunday, the obstetrics emergency departments at Amadora-Sintra, Braga, Vila Franca de Xira, Santarém, and Abrantes are listed.
Pediatric emergencies at Vila Franca de Xira and Beatriz Ângelo Hospital (Loures) will also have restrictions, attending only cases referred by INEM. At Beatriz Ângelo Hospital, this applies only on Sunday.
According to the published schedules, on Saturday, 126 emergency services will be open nationwide, in addition to 33 units operating under the pilot project that requires patients to contact the SNS 24 Line beforehand.
On Sunday, 123 emergency services and 34 units from the pilot project will be available.
The constraints are mainly due to a shortage of specialist doctors to cover the shifts. Health authorities recommend that, before heading to an emergency, the public should contact the SNS 24 Line (808 24 24 24) for appropriate guidance.
