There are two Lisbon Metro stations with new elevators.

The Lisbon Metro has announced the installation of three new elevators at the southern entrance of Campo Pequeno station, with the surface elevator located near the Tribunal de Contas. Additionally, three new elevators have been installed at the northern entrance of Picoas station, with the surface elevator positioned close to the Altice building.

These new installations provide direct access to the station concourses where transport tickets are validated. After passing through the control line, now in the paid area, two additional elevators are available to ensure connectivity between the concourse and each train platform, the company detailed.

The Lisbon Metro is executing an extensive modernization and adaptation plan for its network as part of the National Plan for the Promotion of Accessibility. This aims to fulfill the principle of “Accessibility and Mobility for All,” established by Decree-Law No. 163/2006, August 8.

With the completion of the interventions at Campo Pequeno and Picoas stations, Lisbon Metro now has 46 stations equipped with elevators and accessibility features, representing approximately 82% of the entire network, the company indicated.

According to the Lisbon Metro, all new stations opened as part of the network expansion plan “will be fully accessible” and will incorporate “universal mobility solutions, eliminating architectural barriers throughout the routes.”

“Achieving accessibility for people with reduced mobility is a strategic priority for the Lisbon Metro, which has been progressively adapting older stations, originally not designed for this purpose, by installing elevators that ensure the connection between platforms and the exterior, avoiding the use of escalators and/or pedestrian paths,” the statement reads.

The Lisbon Metro operates daily on four lines: Yellow (Rato-Odivelas), Green (Telheiras-Cais do Sodré), Blue (Reboleira-Santa Apolónia), and Red (Aeroporto-São Sebastião).
