There will be no trains between Cais do Sodré and Algés at night in April and May.

The Lisbon Metro, CP – Comboios de Portugal, and Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced an upcoming series of maintenance works necessitating the suspension of train services on the Cascais Line between Cais do Sodré and Algés. These disruptions will begin on April 7, from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM.

Moreover, a complete halt of train services on this segment will occur from 10:00 PM on April 25 until 5:00 AM on April 28, and similarly between May 2 and May 5 during the same hours.

The disruptions are part of efforts to “restore the original alignment of the line between Cais do Sodré and Algés,” which was temporarily altered to enable construction of a new metro tunnel. This tunnel will connect the future Santos Station on the Circular Line to the existing Cais do Sodré metro station.

Metro services will remain unaffected by these works, which will be conducted in phases, primarily at night and over weekends, to ensure service continuity and minimize the impact of construction activities.

“Due to the nature of this area, which presents various technical and infrastructural challenges, including those related to the underground environment, the project requires maximum safety and precision,” the statement elaborated, highlighting that such conditions make concurrent railway operations by CP incompatible.

In addition to the replacement bus services provided by CP as part of the Cascais Line modernization led by IP, the Lisbon Metro, CP, Carris, and other transportation operators, in coordination with the Lisbon City Council, have planned “certain measures to alleviate the inconvenience” caused by the CP service suspension on the specified weekends in April and May.

During these weekends, replacement bus services will provide an alternative route, traveling between Cais do Sodré and Algés and back. The buses will depart from the CP-specific stop at Cais do Sodré, Praça Duque da Terceira, traveling via 24 de Julho Avenue and Avenida da Índia, with stops in Santos, Alcântara-Mar, and Belém, and arriving and departing in Algés at Largo da Estação (bus terminal adjacent to Av. Marginal).

Carris routes available for travel near CP stations include 15E, 751, 714, 728, 727, 732, and 201 (night network), while routes from Algés/Belém to the city center include 723, 729, 750, 751, 727, and 728.

CP passengers with valid Navegante passes for the Cais de Sodré/Algés route are advised to use the 15E tram, which stops at Carris locations at Cais do Sodré (landside) and Jardim de Algés, Praça 25 de Abril.

The comunicado indicates that travel times on replacement bus services may vary based on traffic conditions, with no guaranteed connection to scheduled trains between Cais do Sodré and Algés, except for the last train of the night departing Algés at 2:05 AM.

Buses operating under the CP replacement services will be clearly marked and equipped with ramps for passengers with reduced mobility. Bicycles will not be allowed, though small pets may be transported if appropriately contained and carried as hand luggage.
