“I believe that there will be opportunities for all the reports that have been produced on this matter to undergo political scrutiny in the Assembly of the Republic with the presence of the Government, and that is what will surely happen”, stated Luís Montenegro in brief remarks on the sidelines of the European Council meeting in Brussels.
The matter in question is the conclusion of the Inspectorate-General for Health Activities (IGAS), known on Wednesday, that the death of a man in November 2024, during a strike by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), could have been avoided if he had been assisted within a minimum and reasonable time.
“It was concluded that the user’s death could have been avoided if there had been assistance, in a minimum and reasonable time, that would have made it possible to evacuate the victim via a Coronary Green Way to one of the nearest hospitals, where he could have undergone coronary angioplasty in one of the respective Hemodynamics Units”, said IGAS in a statement released on Wednesday.
This case dates back to November 4, 2024, the day two strikes took place simultaneously – one by pre-hospital emergency technicians for overtime and another by the public administration.
Today, the PS announced that it will urgently request the Health Minister’s hearing in parliament regarding the IGAS report concerning INEM, considering it is time for Ana Paula Martins “to assume her responsibilities.”
Also today, the Liberal Initiative (IL) announced that it will propose the creation of a parliamentary inquiry commission into INEM’s management, a day after it was reported that the death of a man in November 2024, during an institute strike, could have been avoided.
