A date has been set! Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Lisbon on November 13, at 9:00 AM, on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in Alta de Lisboa, announced the Spanish group on Tuesday.
“This new opening represents a significant step in Mercadona’s expansion, as it marks the brand’s arrival in the city of Lisbon, six years after beginning our expansion in Portugal,” stated the company in a press release.
This new supermarket, it explains, “will create about 90 new jobs, stable and quality positions, offering permanent contracts from the first day, thereby contributing to local employment opportunities.”
The company further noted, “The new facilities will include a corporate office, complementing the office already open in Vila Nova de Gaia since 2020, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal.”
Regarding the store, it will “have a sales area of approximately 1,900 m2, with wide aisles that allow comfortable shopping, divided among the Delicatessen, Fish Market, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat sections.”
“The opening of this new supermarket reflects the ongoing national expansion plan of Mercadona, bringing us closer to the ‘Bosses’ (customers) who have long requested a store in the capital,” the company noted.
Mercadona opens in Frielas this week
October is a busy month for Mercadona, as the Spanish group plans to open three supermarkets this month. The latest date announced by the Spanish brand this week indicates a new supermarket will open in Palmela, Setúbal, on October 30, at 9:00 AM, on Rua de São Julião, nº 3.
Before that, Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Frielas, Loures, on October 16, at 9:00 AM, on Rua do Bom Jardim, nº 2. Earlier this month, a store was inaugurated in São Gens (Matosinhos).
Mercadona is expected to open three new supermarkets this month: in São Gens (Matosinhos) on October 9, in Frielas (Loures) on October 16, and in Palmela (Setúbal) on October 30.

Mercadona, which already has over 60 stores in Portugal, announced that it will open its first supermarkets in the city of Lisbon in November, located in Alta de Lisboa and Quinta do Lambert (Lumiar).
The two new supermarkets in the capital will create 180 jobs, according to a statement obtained by Notícias ao Minuto. It is noted that the Spanish brand is already recruiting for these two outlets.

“The vacancies available for these stores are for supermarket operators and maintenance assistants. All job offers include a training period with an effective contract, and remuneration is provided from the first day. Furthermore, during this period, all expenses are covered by the company – food, transportation, accommodation, and also travel home every 15 days for all employees,” the company explains.
