These two foods were the ones that became more expensive since 2024. How much?

The prices of essential food items, which saw the highest increase in the year-over-year period from September 4, 2024, to September 3, 2025, encompass various categories within the food wheel, as analyzed by DECO PROteste.

Leading the list were ground roasted coffee and eggs, each witnessing a 38% rise, translating to a price difference of 1.31 euros and 57 cents, respectively.

Next was beef for stewing, which became 30% more expensive, now costing an additional 2.62 euros.

Finally, the price of cabbage saw a 29% increase, equivalent to 36 cents more.

Experts noted that this week, the food basket costs 240.56 euros.

The basket includes a variety of items such as meat, frozen foods, fruits and vegetables, dairy, grocery items, and fish, featuring products like turkey, chicken, horse mackerel, hake, onion, potato, carrot, banana, apple, orange, rice, spaghetti, sugar, ham, milk, cheese, butter.

What is the current inflation rate?

The inflation rate increased by 2.8% in August, 0.2 percentage points above July’s variation, according to the preliminary estimate released at the end of the month by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The information provided by the institute, still subject to revision, indicates an acceleration in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

In July, the year-over-year index difference was 2.64%, which rose to 2.78% this month, as stated by the INE in their statistical summary.

The inflation rate increased by 2.8% in August, 0.2 percentage points above July’s variation, according to the preliminary estimate released today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The core inflation indicator – excluding unprocessed food and energy products – showed a variation of 2.5% compared to August of last year, matching July’s difference.

“The variation in the index of energy products was -0.2% (-1.1% in July) and the index for unprocessed food products likely accelerated to 7.0% (6.1% in the previous month),” stated the INE.

The global CPI variation compared to July (month-on-month) was negative, with the monthly difference being -0.2%. This decrease was smaller than the decline from June to July, which was -0.4%.
