The Secretary-General of the Socialist Party (PS) praised Alexandra Leitão’s candidacy for the Lisbon City Hall.
Upon arrival at the signing of the coalition agreement, which includes PS, Livre, BE, and PAN, José Luís Carneiro stated that the choice of the former socialist parliamentary leader is not merely correct, but “absolutely correct.” He emphasized that Alexandra Leitão has been demonstrating human, civic, and political capabilities, making her a strong candidate for the city hall of Lisbon.
He further asserted that Alexandra Leitão is “one of the best personalities the PS has” and possesses “the right priorities” as a candidate.
The socialist leader also responded to criticisms from the Lisbon candidate, Carlos Moedas, who labeled the candidacy as “radical.” José Luís Carneiro categorically denied these accusations, describing them as mere “litany” from the PSD candidate.
On the extraordinary pension supplement
Questioned about the measures announced yesterday by the Prime Minister during the State of the Nation debate, José Luís Carneiro also spared no criticism.
The Secretary-General described the extraordinary pension supplement as a “utilitarian and electoral tool, given in September and withdrawn in January.” He added that the PS is open to a permanent and enduring increase that respects and dignifies the elderly population.
The issue concerns a measure announced this Thursday by the Prime Minister.
“Tomorrow, the Council of Ministers will approve the allocation of an extraordinary supplement for all pensions up to 1,567.50 euros,” he announced.
According to Montenegro, the extraordinary supplement will be paid in September and will amount to 200 euros for pensions up to 522.50 euros, 150 euros for pensions between 522.50 euros and 1,045 euros, and 100 euros for pensions between 1,045 and 1,567.50 euros.
