Two men, aged 17 and 19, were detained on October 1st in the Olivais district of Lisbon, on suspicion of robbery, according to a statement by the Public Security Police (PSP).
The Metropolitan Command of Lisbon’s PSP indicated that the incident occurred around 11:30 PM on September 22 in the Parque das Nações area.
The suspects allegedly convinced the victim they possessed a firearm, forcibly leading them to another location where they stole a mobile phone valued at 1,400 euros.
“After being informed of the incident and the suspects’ descriptions,” the PSP officers conducted investigations that resulted in successfully locating the suspects last week.
The individuals were subjected to an identity confirmation process, “where they were unmistakably identified by the victim as the perpetrators of the robbery, leading to their arrest under a warrant issued by the Criminal Police Authority to present them for a preliminary judicial interrogation.”
Both young men had previously been detained on August 30 for violent robbery offenses and were ordered to report twice weekly as a pre-trial measure.
The PSP noted that the “suspects did not comprehend the magnitude and severity of their actions nor the opportunity for behavioral correction given by the judge, continuing their pattern of violent robberies.” Ongoing investigations may reveal additional offenses committed by them.
Following their presentation to the Judicial Authority for the initial judicial interrogation, the suspects were remanded in custody.
