They pursued the elderly and “forced them to hand over” gold pieces in Amadora.

Two men have been arrested and placed under preventive detention after allegedly forcing an “elderly man” to hand over “gold objects” in the Brandoa area between December 2024 and January 2025, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Friday.

In a statement released on its website, the Public Prosecutor of the District of Lisbon West noted that the men appeared before a judge on Thursday and are “strongly suspected of committing an aggravated robbery, two robberies, and two aggravated abductions.”

The statement outlined that the suspects “devised a plan to target vulnerable individuals residing or traveling in the Brandoa area, aiming to take their possessions through force and intimidation.”

Between December 2024 and January 2025, the accused, masked, “approached elderly individuals on the street or followed them to their homes, coercing them into handing over gold objects under threat.”

During police searches, authorities seized a shotgun and ammunition from one of the defendants, who is also charged with possessing a prohibited weapon.

Both defendants have prior criminal records for property-related crimes and, after their initial judicial interrogation, were ordered to remain in preventive detention.
