They used fake documents to impersonate GNR officers. Two are detained.

A 37-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were caught in the act and arrested by the National Republican Guard (GNR) this Monday, October 20, on charges of “fraud, forgery of documents, possession of a prohibited weapon, and misuse of title, symbol or uniform”, as they were using fake documents to impersonate GNR officers. The incident took place in Benedita, Alcobaça.

The arrests were part of a “criminal investigation that has been ongoing for about four months” regarding the aforementioned crimes. Authorities executed three search warrants, including one at a residence and two at vehicles, as stated in a communiqué released today.

As a result of the operation, two security inspections of the suspects were also conducted, leading to the arrests and the seizure of materials.

Among the confiscated items were various GNR identification materials, a GNR badge, several uniform articles used by the security forces (GNR/PSP), various tactical equipment used by security forces (GNR/PSP), two firearm holsters, a prohibited weapon, and eight CO2 cartridges for an air gun.

The GNR also seized a bottle containing 1,500 lead units, four communication radios with charging bases and earpieces, three identification cards from INEM and Lisbon Youth Firefighters in the suspect’s name, a DAE operational card (External Defibrillation) in the male suspect’s name, and two mobile phones.

The detainees, “with a criminal history of similar illegal activities”, will appear before the Criminal Investigation Court in Leiria for the application of preventive measures.

This operation was reinforced by officers from the Benedita Territorial Post.
