The Aveiro GNR arrested 30 people as part of a mega-operation to combat drug trafficking, seizing thousands of doses of drugs and almost 160,000 euros in cash, the security force said today.
In a statement, the GNR said that the suspects, aged between 21 and 66, were arrested for drug trafficking on Tuesday in the districts of Aveiro, Porto and Braga.
As part of a police operation called “Tarantula”, related to the crime of drug trafficking, 21 arrest warrants, 38 house search warrants and seven vehicle searches were carried out, according to the same press release.
The operation, which followed an investigation that had been going on for about a year and a half, included several police actions in the municipalities of Santa Maria da Feira and Oliveira de Azeméis, in the district of Aveiro, Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto, in the district of Porto, and Esposende, in the district of Braga.
In total, according to the Guardia, 18 men and three women were arrested with warrants out of flagrante delicto and eight men and one woman were arrested in flagrante delicto.
During the operation, 57,255 doses of hashish, 1,130 doses of lamba, 690 doses of cocaine, 2,650 doses of MDMA (ecstasy), 25 LSD stamps and various cutting and packaging materials were seized.
The authorities also seized 16 cars, three motorcycles and 158,920 euros in cash.
With this action, the GNR believes it has dismantled an organized criminal network dedicated to drug trafficking in the northern region of the district of Aveiro, Vila Nova de Gaia and Porto.
The operation involved the participation of 168 GNR soldiers, with the support and collaboration of 140 PSP officers.
The detainees will be brought before the Santa Maria da Feira Judicial Court today for the application of coercive measures.
