The Bairro Alto Hotel was considered the “Best City Hotel” in the Publituris Portugal Travel Awards 2023, awarded last Thursday night at the Montebelo Mosteiro de Alcobaça Historic Hotel, in Alcobaça.
The 18th edition of the awards, organized annually by the Publituris newspaper, took into account 174 nominees who competed in a total of 22 categories. The nominees were identified by the editorial staff of this publication, and the winners were voted for by the jury, but also by subscribers of the paper edition and by subscribers of the daily newsletter.
In October 2022 it was the hotel’s turn to be elevated to “Best Boutique Hotel in Portugal” according to the World Travel Awards, considered the “tourism Oscars”. The hotel unit has already achieved this title in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In the vast curriculum of the Bairro Alto Hotel are also other distinctions awarded as a result of the World Travel Awards – it was even elected as Landmark Hotel in Europe in three consecutive years (2015, 2016 and 2017).
An integral part of the Lisbon scene, the Bairro Alto Hotel is open to the local community. It has 87 rooms and suites, where timeless style is omnipresent.
The original design has been maintained and continues to define the essence of the hotel, which is also the result of the architectural mastery of Souto de Moura, winner of the Pritzker Prize in 2011 (the most recent intervention dates from 2019). The interiors, of a significant aesthetic amplitude, are a reflection of the work done by Atelier Bastir, with the exception of the BAHR’s decoration, which has the signature of Thestudio.
The Bairro Alto Hotel includes the BAHR&Terrace, whose cuisine is under the command of the executive chef Bruno Rocha, and the Rooftop, on the sixth floor, facing one of the best views of Lisbon.
