
The local government has declared “three days of municipal mourning, and canceled events organized directly or shared by the municipality” due to the “severity” and “scale” of the situation, expressing “deep condolences for the tragic events.”
The municipality also stated it is “providing all possible support to the families of the victims” by setting up “a psychological and information support center” at the INATEL pavilion in Mirandela.
Six people lost their lives and 25 were injured in a fire that broke out around 5 a.m. in a room at the Bom Samaritano nursing home, operated by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Mirandela.
