The Territorial Command of the GNR in Guarda reported the arrests conducted by officers from the Nature and Environment Protection Service (SEPNA) in Gouveia and Pinhel.
The first occurrence happened during a game prevention and inspection operation, when a SEPNA patrol from Gouveia found a 65-year-old man hunting “using prohibited means, including a caller, which led to his arrest in flagrante delicto, in the municipality of Seia,” stated the GNR in a note sent to the Lusa agency.
This action also resulted in the seizure of a hunting weapon, a caller, 44 cartridges, and a belt bag.
The second incident occurred during a hunting inspection operation on Monday, when SEPNA from Pinhel detained two men, aged 39 and 61, for boar jumping hunting in a protection area, “specifically less than 500 meters from two industrial facilities, in the municipality of Trancoso.”
At that time, two hunting weapons, two hunting licenses, two gun registration books, and eight cartridges were seized.
The three suspects were named defendants, and the facts were communicated to the Judicial Courts of Seia and Trancoso, respectively.
The GNR reminded that those who capture non-hunting species using unauthorized means and processes commit a crime against the conservation of fauna and game species and are subject to imprisonment for up to six months or a fine for up to 100 days.
It also noted that there are protection areas where hunting is prohibited “due to the risk it may pose to the life, health, or tranquility of people, or the potential to cause material damage.”
