Three firefighters from Folgosinho injured while fighting a fire in Mêda

The situation was confirmed to Lusa by Jody Rato, deputy regional commander of the Centre, who is leading the operational response to the fires that broke out in Satão and Trancoso, with the command post located in Aguiar da Beira.

“Two of the injured suffered burns, one on a hand and the other on a leg. The third sustained a sprain while fighting the fire in the Longroiva area,” the official stated.

The injured were transported to the Meda Health Centre for observation, and two were further transferred to the Viseu Dão-Lafões Local Health Unit.

According to Jody Rato, the incident occurred at 6:00 PM in Longroiva, where there is an active fire front.

Hundreds of firefighters from across the country are battling the blaze, which originated from two fires in Sátão (Viseu district) and Trancoso (Guarda district), and on Friday merged into one, spreading to 11 municipalities in both districts.

The 11 municipalities affected are: Sátão, Sernancelhe, Moimenta da Beira, Penedono, and São João da Pesqueira (Viseu district); Aguiar da Beira, Trancoso, Fornos de Algodres, Mêda, Celorico da Beira, and Vila Nova de Foz Coa (Guarda district).

The Vila Boa fire in the parish of Ferreira de Aves, Sátão, was reported at 1:03 AM on Wednesday, reaching the municipalities of Sernancelhe (also in the Viseu district) and Aguiar da Beira (Guarda district) on the same day.

The Freches fire alert in Trancoso, Guarda district, was raised a week ago, on the 9th, at 5:21 PM.

At 7:45 PM today, 1,342 personnel were combating the fire that originated from the Sátão and Trancoso blazes, supported by 442 vehicles and four aerial resources, according to the official website of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC).
