Three people removed from home due to a fallen tree on Faial Island

A representative from the Associação Humanitária de Bombeiros Voluntários do Faial informed that the fall of a tree endangered a residence, necessitating the evacuation of three individuals who were relocated to the homes of family members.

The representative emphasized that this was a “safety measure” as the tree did not cause significant damage to the house located in Flamengos, a parish in the central area of Faial.

Information provided indicated that by 7:00 AM local time, 22 incidents related mostly to fallen trees and structures had been recorded on Faial Island.

Tropical cyclone Gabrielle began affecting the Azores at 10:00 PM local time on Thursday.

The islands in the Central (Pico, Faial, Graciosa, Terceira, and São Jorge) and Western (Flores and Corvo) groups remain under a red alert—the most severe on a three-level scale—due to forecasts of rain, wind, and maritime disturbance.

The Regional Government declared an alert state until 6:00 PM on Friday, in the Central and Western groups, prohibiting certain activities.

In these islands, non-essential and urgent public services, including schools, have been closed.
