Three individuals sustained serious injuries following a collision between a Viana do Castelo Volunteer Firefighters’ ambulance and a truck on Highway 28 (A28) today in Palmeira de Faro, Esposende municipality, a fire department source reported.
According to the source, the injured include two firefighters, a man and a woman, and a nurse, all of whom were traveling in the ambulance.
The alert was raised at 2:52 PM, with the accident occurring in an uphill area in the direction of Esposende-Viana do Castelo.
Traffic was initially blocked in that direction but is now moving with restrictions.
The victims had to be extricated from their vehicle.
A total of 43 responders, supported by 16 vehicles, were deployed for the rescue operation.
The source indicated that this location is prone to frequent accidents due to the slow speed of heavy vehicles on the steep incline.
At the time of the accident, the ambulance was reportedly returning to Viana do Castelo after an emergency service.
