Three tourists, two men and a woman aged between 25 and 27, became lost during a hike in the Curral das Freiras mountains, located in a parish within the Câmara de Lobos municipality on the island’s interior. The alarm was raised to authorities on Thursday night.
Manuel Filipe, president of IFCN, stated that at 8:30 p.m., two members of the Forest Police Corps were deployed and searched throughout the night for the tourists. The operation also involved several members of the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters.
The search efforts continued today, hindered by adverse weather conditions, including rain and fog, as well as the remoteness of the location known as Pico Redondo, which is outside any designated path or trail.
The rescue team directed the tourists back to Curral das Freiras, where they arrived approximately 20 hours after the operation commenced. Fortunately, they appear to be in good health without injuries.
