Three youths detained for assaulting and robbing in Faro. Victim was left on the ground.

The Public Security Police (PSP) detained three young men, aged between 24 and 28, in the early hours of Friday, in connection with a robbery.

The individuals were apprehended following a report from a victim who was found lying on the ground during a routine patrol in the city, displaying “signs of having been assaulted,” including “some serious injuries.”

Upon providing assistance, the victim informed the PSP officers from Faro’s Special Police Unit that three men had attacked him and stolen a ring, a mobile phone, and 60 euros.

“Based on the description of the suspects and images from the city’s surveillance system, efforts were made to locate and arrest them, which was successfully achieved a few minutes later,” the statement read.

According to the PSP, a portion of the money was recovered, but the suspects, aged 24 to 28, “refused to disclose the whereabouts of the stolen ring and mobile phone, making their immediate recovery impossible.”

The detainees appeared in court on Saturday morning. Two of them were remanded in custody, while the third was released on a condition of weekly appearances at the police station in his area of residence.
