Tiago Rodrigues’ first play until the end of the year at Teatro do Bairro Alto

Creations by Tim Etchells, Alberto Cortés, Luísa Saraiva, and Vânia Doutel Vaz are part of the program, alongside musical performances featuring Yasuhiro Morinaga, Robert Millis, the Sakina Abdou Trio, and discussions with Jacqueline Nsiah and Denise Fernandes, Patrícia Portela and Zia Soares, among others.

“Many of the proposals that the TBA presents this autumn arise from absence, dissolution, and loss; they come from a torpor or haze that is a way to survive after the wound. They are works of mourning, but also works of love,” writes Francisco Frazão, the artistic director of the theater, in the presentation of the season for the last four months of this year.

“The very fact that [these works] exist is reason for celebration: those who created them, the age-old recipe of art, took what was left to shape a new life. And that is why we are eager to share them with you,” Francisco Frazão adds, emphasizing that “English folk songs, German romantic poetry, Egyptian iconography; a sudden lack of air, diaries of night outings, shellac, overflowing glasses, the ghosts of History” “are the autumn materials” of the TBA, “transformed into dance, concert, performance, endless spiral.”

Among TBA’s performing arts offerings are ‘Abalphabet,’ a performance by Alberto Cortés (September 10 and 11), the play ‘Coro dos Amantes,’ the first written by Tiago Rodrigues, performed by Cláudia Gaiolas and Tónan Quito (September 17 to 20), ‘A Plot / A Scandal,’ by Lígia Lewis (October 2 and 3), ‘Burning on and on,’ by Luísa Saraiva (October 4), ‘Violetas,’ by Vânia Doutel Vaz (November 21 to 23) and ‘Láddition,’ brought by Tim Etchells/Bert&Nazi (December 19 and 20).

Musical performances include Yasuhiro Morinaga and Robert Millis with ‘Life entangled: The secret story of Shellac’ (September 26), the concert ‘Hammer, roll and leaf’ with Sakina Abdou Trio featuring Marta Warelis and Toma Gouband (October 9), Mafalda Banquart and silentparty in ‘Flowers!’ (October 17 and 18), Grilo with Ivu’Kar (November 8) and the year-ending show, ‘Da roda que não tem fim,’ on December 6 and 7.

The conversation series features ‘Imaginação radical e a urgência de nos vermos,’ by Jacqueline Nsiah and Denise Fernandes (October 10), ‘Zona de dramaturgia,’ with Gisela Casimiro and Teresa Coutinho (October 22) and Patrícia Portela and Zia Soares with Maria Giulia Pinheiro (November 28), ‘Da boca ao universo,’ by Denise Santos and moreya (November 4).

The complete program for TBA from September to December is available on the theater’s website.
