Tim celebrates 50 years on stage with two concerts in Lisbon

“It will be a meeting of the many projects I am or have been part of, with guests I have worked with in one way or another. Still, I know we won’t have time for everyone… But we will definitely have Teresa Salgueiro, Pedro Jóia, Jorge Palma, Rui Veloso, Resistência, Tais Quais, and, of course, Xutos & Pontapés!” Tim stated in a press release issued by his management today.

The celebration of the musician’s 50 years on stage is scheduled for September 20 and 21, featuring “two distinct concerts”.

The first show, on the 20th at 20:00, will feature Xutos & Pontapés, and the second, on the 21st at 17:30, will include Resistência and Tais Quais, other bands Tim is part of.

Both concerts will be “dotted with guests here and there.”

In the statement, Tim recalls beginning to participate in concerts since August 1975.

Four years later, on January 13, 1979, he took the stage for the first time with Xutos & Pontapés at the Apolo Students’ ballroom in Lisbon, on a night when the band played four songs in just over five minutes.

At the time, the group, which had also been named Delirium Tremens then Beijinhos e Parabéns, included young members Zé Pedro, Kalú, Tim, and Zé Leonel, influenced by the punk-rock that was strongly emerging on the foreign music scene.

Throughout the early 1980s, Zé Leonel left the group at different times, and João Cabeleira and Gui joined.

Forty-six years after the first concert, the group remains a fixture in Portuguese music with over a dozen albums and many songs that serve as an anchor for a rock clan with thousands of fans from various generations.

Even after the death of guitarist Zé Pedro in 2017, the band remained active on stage and in the studio, with Tim (vocalist and bassist), João Cabeleira (guitarist), Gui (saxophonist), and Kalú (drummer).

In the 1990s, Tim was part of Resistência and Rio Grande and released his first solo album, “Olhos meus”.

He followed with “Um e o outro” in 2006, “Braço de Prata” in 2008, and “Companheiros de aventura” in 2010.

Tim is also part of the projects Cabeças no Ar, Tais Quais, and SVT, in addition to collaborations with various artists.

In June last year, the book “Milhares de palavras” was released, compiling mainly lyrics Tim wrote for Xutos & Pontapés, but also including lyrics he sang solo and four songs written for others: Tais Quais, Teresa Salgueiro, Quinta do Bill, and Carlos Moisés.
