TO THE MINUTE: Mortágua in the campaign; Moderate rents? Moedas ‘says no’

The candidate from BE/Livre/PAN for the Cascais City Council advocated today for a cultural policy “focused on communities” rather than solely on tourism, during a visit to the Carcavelos Recreational Musical Society with maestro Victorino d’Almeira.

According to Alexandre Abreu, the cultural dynamic in Cascais is “concentrated in very specific points in time, in the annual calendar and space, often in the center of Cascais and little more,” in a “touristy and often elitist view of event culture, rather than a democratic, everyday cultural experience geared towards communities and young people, in conjunction with schools.”

The municipal deputy for the BE was speaking to Lusa at the Carcavelos Recreational Musical Society, accompanied by Inês de Sousa Real, spokesperson for PAN, maestro António Victorino d’Almeira, head of the list for the Municipal Assembly Safaa Dib, and the campaign’s representative, João Paulo Batalha.

The visit to the institution, which is about to celebrate its 124th anniversary, aimed to “highlight the importance of local authorities in the policy and implementation of culture, ensuring access to culture in a truly democratic way in municipalities,” particularly in Cascais.

For the candidate, the society “has enormous dynamism” with activities ranging from musical training to others like karate or yoga, in a “space that truly creates community at a local level,” which is “especially important in times where discord and hatred are spreading.”
