Good morning! As the week reaches its midpoint, beyond the ‘green light’ given to the State Budget on Tuesday, there are other highlights on the front pages of the national press.
The Público reports that by 2026, there is an anticipated cut in spending for hospitals within the National Health Service, even if it means slowing down consultations and surgeries. “SNS Executive Board orders hospitals to cut expenses”, reads the headline.
Meanwhile, the Diário de Notícias discusses with the coordinator of the Border Coordination and Foreign Unit, Superintendent Pedro Moura: “Entry refusals at the border for security reasons increase by 30%,” it reports.
Another topic covered concerns the death of a National Republican Guard (GNR) officer who lost his life during a major operation on the Guadiana River, in Alcoutim. “War on drug trafficking in the Algarve. Major operation to hunt down GNR officer’s killers”, writes Correio da Manhã, while Jornal de Notícias points out: “GNR’s death reveals growing violence on new drug routes”.
The sports press highlights Sporting’s thrashing of Alverca, while the magazine Sábado features a special on Francisco Balsemão, a week after his death.
