Today’s news: House of Leitão Amaro with discount?; More ‘extra’ surgery

Good morning! As the weekend approaches, so does the end of the month. In the headlines, the national press highlights various topics ranging from politics to finances, recognizing World Savings Day, as well as the debate between Rui Costa and João Noronha Lopes.

The Correio da Manhã reports that the company Destinos Mágicos, owned by the brother-in-law of the Minister of the Presidency, António Leitão Amaro, bought a property in Lisbon for 750 thousand euros in 2018 and sold it in 2021 at the same price to the now minister. Leitão Amaro claims to have received no discount.

Nascer do Sol reveals that “Former minister and 28 professors received thousands illegally,” referring to Elvira Fortunato, the former Science, Technology and Higher Education Minister.

The weekly Expresso highlights the controversy reactivated with Chega’s billboards, featuring TikTok content: “Ventura and Chega’s videos about Roma and immigrants viewed 43 million times”.

On its front page, Jornal de Notícias states that “Surgeries in the SNS outside regular hours are soaring,” with additional production “increasing since 2020.”

The sports press focuses on the debate between Rui Costa and Noronha Lopes, who face-off in a runoff election for the Benfica presidency on November 8.
