The second indicator, the Topix, also closed the session down 0.21% at 2,782.97 points.
The Nikkei index reflects the unweighted average of the 225 major stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while the Topix indicator groups the values of the 1,600 largest listed companies.
