The second Japanese indicator, the Topix, also closed with an increase of 0.75% at 2,777.13 points.
The Nikkei index reflects the unweighted average of the top 225 stocks on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, while the Topix index includes stocks from the 1,600 largest listed companies.
