Turismo Centro de Portugal (TCP) announced a comprehensive plan focused on assessing material damages and the needs of municipalities and tourism-related businesses affected by recent wildfires.
Following the collation of this data, TCP plans to engage with the government, via the State Secretariat for Tourism, the regional coordination and development commission, intermunicipal communities, and sector-related associations and partners “to find rapid and effective support measures for the affected regions through constant collaboration.”
This initiative will be complemented by a campaign to promote the Centre of Portugal brand, aiming to showcase that the region remains vast and many of its key tourism assets remain unaffected.
The campaign will also highlight major sporting and cultural events scheduled in the coming months within the region.
Rui Ventura, president of Turismo Centro de Portugal, expressed solidarity with families and municipalities affected by the fires, and extended gratitude to firefighters and the civil protection services in the statement.
Regarding the action plan, Ventura emphasized that with the Center of Portugal and “everyone’s commitment, recovery starts immediately.”
“This is a territory of resilient people and visionary entrepreneurs, where hope never fades. The Center of Portugal will quickly recover and continue to assert itself as a premier tourist destination, attracting more visitors from around the world each year,” he stated.
Highlighting that the region is “much larger than areas affected by fires,” Ventura noted that only a portion of the TCP’s 100 municipalities was directly impacted.
“The region is, as always, ready to welcome visitors with the quality and hospitality for which it is known, offering unforgettable tourist experiences,” Rui Ventura emphasized.
