Tourism of the Center wants a wine tourism route with Alentejo and Extremadura.

“My proposal for 2026 is to create an Iberian wine tourism green corridor, with a defined route like the Way of St. James, allowing people to mark their passage with a specific passport,” said Rui Ventura.

The official, who took office about two months ago, spoke regarding the meeting set to take place on Thursday in Madrid, Spain, concerning the project “Three regions, two countries and one heart,” as part of a partnership that began about a decade ago.

The area, covering 92,500 square kilometers and home to four million people, sees the three regions cooperating and forming partnerships to promote and enhance tourism.

During Thursday’s meeting in Madrid, the project’s second event this year, videos showcasing the locations the three regions aim to promote will be presented, along with a gastronomic tasting where TCP will offer Aveiro’s “ovos moles.”

The Alentejo region will handle the main course preparation, and Spanish Extremadura will provide the appetizers, with wines from all three regions.

The event aims to highlight the potential of this Iberian axis as a tourist destination and foster synergies among various sector stakeholders, including public and private institutions, to develop and boost the joint tourism offer.

According to the president of the Center of Portugal Regional Tourism Entity, another event will take place in September in Lisbon, followed by a fourth in November in Elvas, which will gather entrepreneurs from both sides of the border.

“The aim is to carry out a joint promotion of these regions and showcase their territories, through borders united by leisure,” emphasized Rui Ventura.
