An incident has been reported with the alert received at 3:28 PM, according to the National Civil Protection Authority’s website. The event occurred in the area of the União de Freguesias de Cabreiros e Albergaria da Serra, near the Frecha da Mizarela, a significant waterfall in the municipality of the Aveiro district and the Porto Metropolitan Area.
“The individual involved is a foreign national who was hiking in the area and suffered a fall,” reports a source from the Arouca Town Hall. “The fall’s depth wasn’t significant—less than two meters—but the location is very challenging to access. Considering the fracture type, a rescue on foot would be extremely painful,” the source adds.
The head of the Arouca Volunteer Fire Department, José Gonçalves, confirms that the rescue in this location is complex, but assures: “The firefighters and the INEM are down there with him. The issue is that it is a very difficult area to access and they can’t get him out without a helicopter.”
The individual’s son, who was accompanying him on the hike, is also present at the location.
As of 7:45 PM, according to the Civil Protection website, 18 personnel and eight vehicles from various entities were involved in the operation.
