According to the PJ, a maritime operation in the EEZ resulted in the “caught in the act arrest” of three men charged with “high-risk international drug trafficking, trafficking association, and money laundering.”
The suspects were intercepted aboard a sailboat, which, according to the investigation, was used to transport “large quantities” of cocaine and other drugs from Brazil to Europe.
The sailboat used for drug transportation was seized, along with 6,875 euros and 120,396 reais (19,588 euros) found onboard.
During the search, the PJ also seized satellite phones, a precision scale, and navigation equipment.
The three detainees were presented to the Praia District Court, which imposed periodic reporting and a travel ban, under which they must await further legal proceedings.
The PJ added that this intervention was conducted by the Central Investigation Unit of Narcotic Trafficking and Organized Crime, with support from the Lisbon-based Maritime Analysis and Operations Centre – Narcotics (MAOC-N), the Spanish Civil Guard, and the Mauritanian Navy.
