The Beja Territorial Command of the GNR indicated that road circulation on the affected section of the road at kilometer 59, in the parish of Vila Verde de Ficalho, Serpa, was resumed around 12:50.
“Traffic is being alternated on one lane of the road after the crashed vehicle was removed from the road using a crane,” stated the same source.
According to the authorities, that section of EN260, which connects Beja to the Spanish border, “is still undergoing cleaning” due to the liquid fertilizer spilled by the overturned heavy goods vehicle.
Authorities were alerted to the heavy goods vehicle accident at 06:57, according to the Baixo Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.
The accident occurred at kilometer 59 of EN260, in the parish of Vila Verde de Ficalho, involving “a spill of liquid fertilizer on the road,” the cargo carried by the vehicle.
The accident led to the interruption of road traffic in both directions from 07:35, the source added.
The individual in the vehicle, who suffered serious injuries, was transported to Beja hospital, accompanied by the emergency medical and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) of the National Medical Emergency Institute based at that hospital.
Thirteen operatives were mobilized for the accident, supported by five vehicles, including resources from the fire brigade, GNR, and INEM.
