
The Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of Lezíria do Tejo reported that traffic was being alternated by 8:35 PM as road cleanup efforts concluded.
The Civil Protection indicated that the accident involved a heavy goods vehicle, a passenger car, and a light goods vehicle, resulting in four victims; three were trapped and two died at the scene.
The other two victims were treated at the accident site, according to the same source.
The incident occurred in Porto Alto, Benavente municipality, Santarém district, with the alert given at 3:51 PM, leading to a traffic closure in both directions, as reported by the sub-regional command.
Rescue operations involved 30 emergency personnel from Samora Correia and Alcochete fire departments, GNR, and INEM, supported by 12 vehicles, including two medical emergency and resuscitation vehicles from Vila Franca de Xira Hospital and Barreiro-Montijo Hospital Center.
