In a statement, Infraestruturas de Portugal announced that the traffic closure is expected to last 12 days due to necessary work for the duplication and rehabilitation of the Santa Comba Dão/Viseu section of the IP3.
“Complete demolition work will be carried out on structures of four overpasses on the IP3,” it explained, adding that “for environmental reasons, to ensure the night rest of local residents, and to guarantee the safety of users” during the execution of the works, it was decided to close the traffic.
During this period, traffic will be diverted to Estrada Nacional 2, according to “properly implemented signage on site.”
Infraestruturas de Portugal recalled that the duplication and rehabilitation project of the section between Santa Comba Dão and Viseu – representing an investment of around 103 million euros – “involves duplicating the current IP3 platform over a length of 27.5 kilometers.”
The objective is to promote “the improvement of quality, comfort, and road safety levels, increase capacity, and reduce travel times between Santa Comba Dão and Viseu.”
According to Infraestruturas de Portugal, this project is part of the overall initiative for the requalification and duplication of the IP3, “a road axis of undeniable regional importance promoting territorial cohesion.”
“As part of this project, the requalification intervention of the section between the Penacova junction and the bridge over the Dão river has already been completed,” it added.
