Fourteen districts in mainland Portugal will be under an orange warning, the second most severe, until Thursday due to heavy rain, as announced today by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
In the districts of Viseu, Porto, Guarda, Setúbal, Santarém, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra, and Braga, the orange warning will be in effect from 9:00 PM today until 9:00 AM Thursday due to “occasionally heavy and persistent rainfall.”
All districts in mainland Portugal will be under a yellow warning for various reasons—maritime agitation, wind, or precipitation—at different times from today until Friday.
The orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a “moderate to high risk meteorological situation,” and the yellow warning indicates a risk situation for certain activities dependent on weather conditions.
