Traffic resumed in Porto Covo after a collision that left one dead and 5 injured.

A spokesperson for the Setúbal Territorial Command informed that traffic on this section of EM554 resumed in both directions around 12:30 p.m.

Traffic on this road connecting Porto Covo and Sines, in the Setúbal district, was halted in both directions following a road collision notified to authorities at 8:00 a.m., as explained by a representative from the Alentejo Litoral Sub-Regional Command of Emergency and Civil Protection.

Initially, reports suggested the collision involved two passenger cars, but it was later clarified that the incident involved three vehicles: a passenger car, a pickup truck, and a light commercial vehicle.

The accident resulted in the death of a 31-year-old Indian man and injured five other men, three of whom were also Indian, along with one Portuguese and one Brazilian, aged between 29 and 32.

Among the injured, one 31-year-old Indian immigrant sustained serious injuries, while the others suffered minor injuries. All injured were transported to the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano (HLA) in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém.

The deceased’s body was taken to the forensic services at HLA, added a source from the sub-regional command of Civil Protection.

The causes of the accident are being investigated by the GNR’s Traffic Accident Crime Investigation Unit.

Twenty personnel were dispatched to the scene, supported by nine vehicles, including resources from the fire department, the GNR, and the National Institute of Medical Emergency, with the Immediate Life Support ambulance from Odemira and HLA’s Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle.
