The Évora Territorial Command of the GNR reported that the road traffic has been restored in both directions.
The section of the EN4 near Estremoz was closed due to a head-on collision between a light goods vehicle and a truck, with the alert issued at 09:54, according to the Central Alentejo Sub-Regional Command for Emergency and Civil Protection.
Authorities stated that the fatality is a 30-year-old man, the driver of the light goods vehicle, whose death was confirmed at the scene, while the truck driver received assistance from emergency teams.
The deceased man was Brazilian and played for a team in the Évora District Football Championship, a club source stated.
The rescue operations involved the Estremoz and Borba fire brigades, National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), GNR, PSP, and the Municipal Civil Protection Service, totaling 23 personnel supported by 11 vehicles.
An emergency and resuscitation medical vehicle (VMER) was among the resources deployed.
