
The authorities reported that the accident resulted in two fatalities and five injuries, three of which were serious.
The GNR indicated that traffic on that road was halted shortly after 6:00 PM in both directions near São Manços due to the accident and resumed on one lane at 10:50 PM.
One of the fatalities was a 22-year-old driver of a passenger vehicle, and the other was a one-year-old baby, who was transported in critical condition to the Évora hospital, where death was declared.
The Central Alentejo Sub-regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command stated that three other serious injuries and two minor ones were taken to Évora hospital.
The two minor injuries were bus passengers, it added.
The GNR also reported that the seriously injured include a 16-year-old boy and two young women, aged 15 and 23.
The accident occurred on the EN 256 between São Manços and Vendinha.
According to the GNR, one of the cars collided with the bus and subsequently hit another passenger vehicle.
The sub-regional command source indicated that the accident alert was issued at 6:03 PM.
Forty emergency personnel from the firefighters, the National Institute of Medical Emergency, and the GNR were mobilized to the scene, assisted by 20 vehicles, including two emergency medical and resuscitation vehicles (VMER) from Évora and an Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulance from Estremoz.
