The rail operator CP – Comboios de Portugal has announced significant disruptions in train services due to scheduled strikes, affecting operations primarily between May 7 and 13. The company has stated that it cannot guarantee train circulation, particularly on May 7, 8, and 9, as no minimum services were established by the Arbitration Court of the Economic and Social Council.
As of 7:00 PM today, officials from CP reported that no trains had been in service. The Arbitration Court has clarified that it refrained from implementing minimum services during the ongoing strikes, which extend to May 14, citing concerns from the company about passenger safety should only 15% of operations continue.
The strikes on Wednesday and Thursday have been called by an array of unions, including the Associação Sindical das Chefias Intermédias de Exploração Ferroviária (ASCEF), Associação Sindical Independente dos Ferroviários da Carreira Comercial (ASSIFECO), Federação dos Sindicatos dos Transportes e Comunicações (FECTRANS), Sindicato Nacional dos Transportes Comunicações e Obras Públicas (FENTCOP), Sindicato Nacional dos Ferroviários do Movimento e Afins (SINAFE), Sindicato Nacional Democrático da Ferrovia (SINDEFER), Sindicato Independente dos Trabalhadores Ferroviários das Infraestruturas e Afins (SINFA), Sindicato Independente Nacional dos Ferroviários (SINFB), Sindicato Nacional dos Trabalhadores dos Transportes e Indústria (SINTTI), Sindicato Independente dos Operacionais Ferroviários e Afins (SIOFA), Sindical Nacional de Quadros Técnicos (SNAQ), Sindicato Nacional dos Trabalhadores do Setor Ferroviário (SNTSF), Sindicato dos Transportes Ferroviários (STF), and Sindicato dos Trabalhadores do Metro e Ferroviários (STMEFE).
These actions are compounded by additional strikes organized by the Sindicato dos Maquinistas (SMAQ) and the Sindicato Ferroviário da Revisão Comercial Itinerante (SFRCI).
