The strike at London Gatwick Airport scheduled for the Easter period is expected to affect between 30 to 40 TAP flights departing from Lisbon and Porto.
This alert was issued by the global air passenger rights platform, AirAdvisor, in a statement released on Friday.
The walkout, planned from April 18 to 22, is being carried out by ground staff of Red Handling, the company responsible for providing TAP with essential ground services at Gatwick, including check-in, baggage handling, and flight dispatching. Without these critical operations, flight schedules may face severe disruptions.
The situation could impact “between 4,500 and 6,000 passengers during the five-day strike.”
“Gatwick is a key hub for Portuguese travelers arriving in and departing from the United Kingdom, especially over the Easter weekend when many people travel to visit family or take short breaks. This strike, if not properly managed by airlines, could cause serious disruptions for passengers on both sides,” explained Anton Radchenko, CEO of AirAdvisor.
The same official recommends that “travelers check their flight status, allow extra time at the airport, and have a flexible plan in case of delays or cancellations.”
Radchenko further advises that “acting quickly increases the chances of finding alternative travel options” and that airlines have “obligations to their passengers.”
