The train service between Cais do Sodré and Algés will be suspended to restore the original route of the Cascais Line, starting Monday, April 7, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., including on two weekends.
In a statement, the Lisbon Metro, CP – Comboios de Portugal, and Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) announced they would conduct a series of works requiring the suspension of CP train services on the Cascais Line, between Cais do Sodré and Algés, beginning April 7, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
“Additionally, there will be a complete suspension of service on this segment between 10 p.m. on April 25 and 5 a.m. on April 28, as well as between May 2 and May 5, during the same hours,” the statement read.
The interruptions on the Cascais Line are aimed at “restoring the original route of the line between Cais do Sodré and Algés,” which was temporarily “altered to facilitate the construction of the new metro tunnel” that will connect the upcoming Santos station on the Circular line to the existing Cais do Sodré metro station.
The works will not affect Metro train services and will occur in phases, primarily during nighttime and weekends, to ensure service continuity and minimize the impact of construction, the statement noted.
“Given the nature of the area, it is a part of the city with various technical and infrastructure challenges, including underground issues, that require intervention with the utmost safety and precision,” the statement explained, adding that consequently, the works are incompatible with train operations carried out by CP.
In addition to alternative road services provided by CP as part of the Cascais Line modernization works led by IP, the Metro, CP, Carris, and other transport operators, in collaboration with the Lisbon City Council, have prepared “several measures to mitigate the inconveniences” caused by the CP service suspension during the two weekends in April and May.
The alternative road service on these weekends will include a bus route between Cais do Sodré and Algés, with departure from the dedicated CP stop at Cais do Sodré, Praça Duque da Terceira, via 24 Julho/India Avenue, stopping at Santos, Alcântara-Mar, and Belém, with arrival and departure at Algés at Largo da Estação (bus terminal next to Av. Marginal).
Carris routes available for use near CP stations are 15E, 751, 714, 728, 727, 732, 201 (night network), and from Algés/Belém to the city center, 723, 729, 750, 751, 727, 728.
CP customers with a valid Navegante pass for the Cais de Sodré/Algés route are advised to use the 15E tram, with Carris stops at Cais do Sodré (landward side), and at Jardim de Algés, Praça 25 de Abril.
The statement indicated that travel times on the replacement bus service may vary due to traffic conditions, and connections to scheduled trains between Cais do Sodré and Algés are not guaranteed, except for the last train of the night departing Algés at 2:05 a.m.
Buses operating for CP will be identified and equipped with ramps for people with reduced mobility, and bicycles will not be allowed on board. Small pets can be transported if they are contained in appropriate carriers and treated as hand luggage.
