A 45-year-old foreign national was arrested at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon on suspicion of drug trafficking by air, announced the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on Thursday in a statement sent to Notícias ao Minuto.
According to investigators, the suspect, who was traveling from a Latin American country, was found in possession of approximately five and a half kilograms of methamphetamine. The drugs were concealed in his suitcase, hidden inside coffee packets.
The suspect has already appeared before the competent judicial authority for the initial judicial interrogation and has been placed under the most severe preventive measure, which is pre-trial detention.
The investigations are ongoing, as part of the Polícia Judiciária’s regular efforts “aimed at preventing the introduction of drugs by air into national territory.”
