A 34-year-old man was arrested on October 29 in Almada for dangerous driving, as reported by the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) in a statement this Friday. The individual was found with 200,000 euros in cash.
The incident began during a road safety inspection in Monte da Caparica. GNR officers signaled the driver to stop his vehicle. However, he disobeyed and fled the scene, “accelerating towards one of the officers,” according to the statement.
The suspect engaged in “dangerous driving,” prompting the GNR to pursue him to stop the behavior, which endangered the safety of all road users.
The suspect was intercepted and detained shortly after. Inside the vehicle, the officers discovered 200,000 euros in cash, bundled in notes of 5, 10, and 20 euros.
When questioned about the money’s origin, the detainee could not justify its provenance. At least one note was found to have “indications of forgery” and will undergo forensic analysis.
The GNR members seized the money, along with three mobile phones found inside the vehicle.
The detainee was formally charged, and the case has been reported to the Judicial Court of Almada.
